New Orleans has been my favourite destination so far! There's something about travelling by yourself that changes who you are. You learn, you grow, you meet the most amazing people, and connect with them in ways you never would when travelling with a partner.
Finding your independence is easiest while wandering the streets of a foreign place. Soaking up all of the sights and sounds is easiest without always having to check in with someone else!
When I graduated, I had a $15,000 scholarship, but life had other plans for me. Pregnant at 19, and I became a mother after my 20th birthday. By age 23, I was already a mother of two. Thankfully, I was always a level headed and caring person, and I not only survived motherhood as a very young adult but I did very well.
At 32 I'm now a divorcee and single mother. Certainly life didn't go as expected- but I wouldn't change any of it for the world. My children are beautiful, kind, caring souls. They're smart, they're funny, and they love their momma too.
There's a good reason for it, though. As a child, I grew up reading the books. I definitely waited in line on the release date to get first edition copies.... But, at the age of 20, I became a single mother, and had to sell my entire first edition collection. I was devastated, but momma's gotta do what momma's gotta do to feed her baby!
Fast forward about 7 years, and my son was struggling to read in school, and so I picked up the illustrated version of book one. We read it together over the summer, my son LOVED it, and when he went back to school in september, he was (and continues to be) one of the best readers in his class.
I also exaggerate how much I really love harry potter, but I do it on purpose. I really want my children to have happy memories of their momma and the things we did together. The Potter universe brings me joy and happy memories of my childhood, and my own children. There will never come a day in my children's entire lives that witches and wizards don't remind them of their mother!
As you would expect from any true redhead, I am a passionate woman. A major extrovert. I seek deep connections. I do my best to love people exactly as they are, unconditionally. My default mode is brutal, unapologetic honesty. I have no secrets, and unfortunately sometimes, no filter.
I love Harry Potter and morning cartoons with my littles. I love to work and lead other women to find their power. I use my struggles in life as fuel for my next chapter, my next adventure. I find beauty in the broken.
